Buffalo Berries

Red, yellow and orange buffalo berries are prime bear food and this season provided a bumper crop. Tom, whose sharp eye for plants spotted the majority of the 60+ plants seen along the trails, suggests that the orange ones are a bit sweeter. Sweeter is relative though. While a gourmet meal for a bear they are sour. Much tastier were the wild straw, black, blue and grouse berries we ate along the trail.
